First off, the head does not belong to the body, ha ha ha. I had sewn it up from the batik I used on Ingrid but it was way too blue/green to use for her face. So I took it to doll club on Monday for UFO and worked on it for fun. Because Gretchen, a new doll maker, was watching me as I worked, I sculpted the sides (flares?) of the nose as well as what I usually do. Kind of a mini-sculpting lesson. I really like it and I think I might just have to do that from now on. She still needs eyelashes and maybe a mole or two. I might have to make a body for her - or I can send her to Shashi and SHE can make a body for her. Just kidding. Anyhow, I'm testing a pattern for Rivkah in Israel and that's what the big body is for. You won't believe what this will be when it's done - it is so not my normal style. I'm having fun trying something new. Keep tuned for progress reports.
The doll body looks really great! I keep wondering tho' if you will behave yourself & actually make the head/face Rivkah has in mind or if you will end up giving her an art doll baby head! Bwahahahaha! (I'm KIDDING! I know you'll be a good tester & do it properly.) As for the 'extra' head, it's gorgeous! Love the slant to her eyes! She reminds me VERY much (coloring & just something about her) of the lead character in Wicked! You know - the 'witch'? Hmmmm ... she WAS beautiful, you know - just rather GREEN! Maybe your doll head is HER!
Posted by: Kai at May 19, 2007 3:49 AMI agree with Kai -- I like the green head. HOW I wish I had had someone like you to show me how to sculpt when I was first learning. My first try was pretty awful. My curiosity is certainly piqued regarding the baby however... just how different can a baby BE??

Posted by: jand at May 19, 2007 3:42 PMLOL! At first I thought you had really LOST it, Judi! But I'm seriously impressed with that body and I'm anxious to see what it turns out to be!
I also want to see that green head put on a body, too, though! You've done a great job on her and it would be a shame not to bring her to "life".
I wonder what wonders you are planning for that doll. As for the head yes send it over by all means. I might just have a body lying around that might fit that face the colour will be different but has a small detail like that ever stopped us dollmakers? It could be like a mini rr LOL!

Posted by: Sally Ride at May 21, 2007 9:41 AMROFL!!! I did a double take when I first saw the photo, thinking that head was for that body-hee hee! Now that would be an unusual doll! I look forward to seeing what you do with both of them. Love the sneedle sculpting you did on the face.

This is a good excercise for my imagination! So funny how you put them together!!
Hope to see a cute finished doll from Rivkah's real pattern.
