Stone cold troll

Stone cold troll
I worked on his skin tone today and although I'm happy with the base color I'm not too happy with the 'cracks' I tried to paint on him. I think this will have to be reworked a bit. He's looking cool though.

It's time to pop him in the oven to heat set this first layer of paint. I hope his eyes don't melt!

Cracked troll?

How about paperclay thinned with water to fill the cracks? He's looking great! I really like him. Are you going to sell that pattern?

The cracks are painted...is that correct? You did a good job they look real...only broken maybe instead of cracked. If you want them to look smaller less broken. Warm up the darkest color. Less black more toward brown. And maybe narrower.
You could always use a crackle medium. but that would make lots of little cracks.
Opps sorry...I wrote a book.

maybea White wash or a antiquing wash would tone them down some. I like him the way he is.

It's always hard to know what a designer has in mind when a detail isn't working... to my eyes though, the cracks look good, very realistic. Maybe more like "fissures" or "crevices" than cracks. Deeper, you know? But still, it works for me. This is such an interesting thread to follow!

The stone look is amazing. Well what you think has to be worked out might still turn into a happy stituation. I love the cracked look. I don't know why, it must be me though, he reminds me of a cracked egg shell or one of those many old Roman statues. They still look alive and HE looks alive!!

I love the stone look you did a good job creating the look. I think you should try to fill in the cracks s little to make them thinner, I had the sme problem when I made my baby dragon hatching from an egg, I never did get happy with the looks of my cracks but you have had some good suggestions here so good luck!
Also if those are plastic eyes I read somewhere that if you put damp cotton balls over them as you bake they wil be okay, don't know though never tried.

LOL! That will teach me to just look at the photos and not read the text- hee hee! I thought he was made out of clay and cracked after you baked him! Good indication of how realistic your painting is!
