Sculpting - ugh!

I am taking an on-line class that requires you to sculpt a bust. Okay - so maybe require is too harsh a word - I could use a cloth bust - but the instructions are for sculpting. The face is a mold made by Sherry Goshon. I added a back of the head and a little bit of a neck. The first one I tried didn't have a neck and I used Aves Apoxie Sculpt for the torso. It ended up in the trash. I didn't know what I was doing and the Aves dried too fast. So I switched over to polymer clay. This is what I have so far .. don't laugh!

I still need to blend the clay so it's not so lumpy. The head I'm kind of stuck with because I already baked it. I didn't know about smoothing everything. But it will be painted over so I'm not going to worry about it right now. I do believe that this sculpting stuff takes lots of practice. I don't know that I will get into it but I do have a lot more appreciation now for those who sculpt their figures! I

I'm not going to tell you how many days I've been working on this little bust!

Judi, don't feel bad. I sculpt alot and I wouldn't try to sculp a bust with Aves. I do fine using it for embellishing and to reinforce my armatures but it hardens too fast for me to sculpt with. Polymer clay is preferred medium. I think she is coming along nicely. Are you using a picture as a model? that always helps me. Hope to see her again when you get her done.

I like your boobs. You did a great job. I'm strating my sculpting career as soon as I get my stuff in the mail. The girls found the postcard you sent in the car and were playing with it. They muct have carried it to the car and left it there. They are getting a lot of mileage out of your very kind gesture. Thanks again.

That bust is fantastic! I'm in the class too, and not doing half as well as you. It's hard to change mediums.
Keep it up!

You've done a BEAUTIFUL sculpt! Your bust is pretty AND proportionate! She's going to be gorgeous, Judi! Wish you could sculpt a new body for ME. LOL!

Judi, you've done beautifully! I like sculpting in polymer better too. I just finished sculpting my torso today in apoxie and wish I could go back and do some finishing on her, but of course she's all dry now so I'll go with what I have. She'll be mostly covered anyway!!!!!
