Paper beads

I haven't made these in years! We are going to be having a paper bead swap through my Embellished Circus art group and a couple of the girls have been posting photos of their beads. I just had to try my hand at it after seeing theirs.

I hadn't tried dipping into melted UTEE (Ultra thick embossing enamel) before so I thought I'd give it a go. I had bought a little glue melting pot when our JoAnn's went out of business so I used that to melt the UTEE. I think it got too hot because my clear UTEE turned brown. It made my dark blue papers look black. But when I wrapped those with holographic sliver thread it looked really cool. I even figured out how to stick holeless beads on some of the beads. It was fun.

I remember making paper beads back in the 70s but they NEVER looked THIS good! I'm tempted to try some more! PRETTY!!!!!

Judi they are lovely. What did you coat them with? They look so glossy in the picture. I have not seen paper beads that looked glossy. Did you put modpodge over them?

These are cool. Sigh... you know I will have to try them now, don't you?

How you keep the hole open while dipping the beads, or, if they are still on their skewer, how do you keep the UTEE from attaching the bead to the skewer?

As usual, inquiring minds want to know!

Years ago a small machine was offered for sale in Londonderry, NH and now address is too old. Does anyone know where to find one to do paper beading as yours are very attractive. This was supposed to make 3 different sizes and was on a handle

On my site, www.thebeadrollson.com, I have a 9 minute video on making paper beads around toothpicks. It is a very meditative and addictive activity! I have actually been selling the wearable art that I've made for 18 yrs.and has become a sort of healing modality. I have developed a kit line and soon will be available on cd text files and maybe animation. Does anyone know of a good computer animator?

My friends and I get together once a week to do crafts. We are two painters, one knitter, and one wood burner. We got the stamp fever a few yrs. ago, we try different modalities and have a great time. A few months ago one of the gals said lets make paper beads.. We made some and I made a necklace, wasn't that impressed. Then one of the ladies tried something else and we all got the paper bead bug! One of the ladies discovered that she had the Craft Beader machine from Londonderry! After going crazy trying to find anything comparable, I finally made a scetch and handed it to my husband and said "Make this for me, Please!" he did. It is bigger than the Craft Beader, he used part of a wire hanger for the smaller hole (I put a very large wooden bead on it for a handle and I painted the "machine" bright red. It doesn't have the slit in it that the original does, but I use a vey small glue dot instead. We bought two different sized dowels for two more sizes and he drilled holes to fit. I am now in the process of designing a lager one where the base is a box in which to store the different size dowels and other tools . Am trying different finishes now. We all worked on them this past Friday. The necklaces and earrings are unbelievably beautiful.
We live in Belmont, Bristol and Franklin, NH

Mzuirbeads have been individually hand rolling paper beads to make unique pieces of jewellery from the village of Ndejje in Uganda for over two years. I would everyone to take a look at our site, where you can locate a boutique, or visit our online shop to view our range of paper beads and paper bead jewellery.

Thank you, Kirstie

Please come and see the paperbead jewelry made by Uganda Women Empowerment through Crafts. I watched them last November, and they rolled their beads on pins, or nothing at all, which leaves a tiny hole. Then they coat them with glossy varnish or shellac.

Hi all,
I invented The Craft Beader and marketed the kits all over the US. The kits sold for $5.98 and I got the whole thing approved and evaluated by Sears which offered to put 72 store demonstrators in action. The reason we wnt to Sears was fear of patent infringment. There are lots of things I can tell you about what you can make by paper beyond beads. If you are interested.
