MP3 players and audiobooks

Do you listen to audiobooks or your MP3 player while you create? Our library is going to start allowing you to download audiobooks to your computer next year and I'm wondering if I would actually listen to them. They are going to give us 14 days to listen to the audiobook and then it will stop working (I wonder what technology that is!). Sometimes I get so involved in what I'm doing that I don't even hear what is going on around me. I usually do have the radio on but half the time it doesn't register. What are your thoughts on this ... what do you do? I'm curious.

Strangely enough, I can (and generally DO) watch TV while I create. Nothing mesmerizing that would cause me to be glued to the set, or subtitled (LOL) but other stuff. Yet I can't play music when I create. Why? Because I have a habit of singing with everything. And I CAN do two things at once - listen & create - but I cannot do three -listen, create, and sing. So ...

I usually have music on while I work. I am one of those people that has to sing along with every song they hear-LOL! So I just work and sing my way thru the day-LOL This will probably keep my husband from retiring since he doesn't find my singing all that enjoyable and would lose his mind if he was home all day listening to me. LOL!

I don't do this...but I was told by an Artist (one that actually makes a living painting horses and jockeys) To listen to classical music. Not short songs...nothing fragmented. At the moment I don't remember what his reasoning was...hummm I have to think about this.
You gave me some food for thought.

I listen to music all the time. Sometimes I sing along a few lines and then trail away while working at something. Or I hum along which doesn't require any words to remember LOL!

Long ago before I had children and could get into my studio every day i listened to books on tape. I loved it. Of course if your designing and need quiet I'd turn it off. But since I did quilts and they require a large amount of tedious work to finish the books made them a time realaing and fun. Next year when Megan is in school fulltime it's one of the things I'm looking forward too. But I have no idea what a Mp3 player is. I'm very low tech.

I haven't really tried the audio books other than in the car during a major cross-country trip years ago. However, I do turn my computer on to the Pandora site and listen while I'm sewing. Other times I'll tune in to David Byrne Radio. If I'm really into the crafting zone I'll tune out anything that I'm listening to and it becomes pure background noise. :-)

I'm probably the odd duck as I totally enjoy silence. No music, no tv, my computer is always on though. Once in a million years if I'm doing something mindless I'll watch one of my favorite movies and at Christmas I'll listen to a little music.

The technology the audiobook company uses is a license file that is downloaded with your audiobook. It has run each time you start the book. They set it to expire at 14 days and then the book will no longer play.

I plan to listen to Harry Potter today while I work. :)

I do longarm quilting and listen to books on my MP3 player all the time. I love it. I am able to concentrate enough on the book but still focus on my quilting.

I don't think I would be able to quilt without a book to keep me company.
