I put a couple of my mermaids up for sale in my Etsy shop. I have a whole school of them here and it's time to move a couple out. If you buy one and email me that you saw it here I'll refund your shipping! I also have a couple of my plushies on there. To see them, just click on the little box in the upper right that says Visit Judi's Art Doll store.
I am now working on my polymer clay necklace from the Christi Friesen class over at Doll Street. I'm a polymer novice but it seems to be coming out okay - Christi's instructions are easy to follow. I'll post an in-progress pic when it starts to look like something, LOL.
Oh - I went to knitting class last night and did my gauge swatch. Everything I read about continental knitting said that it is usually looser than throwing so you have to go down a couple of needle sizes. When I bought my needles I bought the sizes it called for plus 2 sizes down. So what do I do? I knit too tight and need the next size UP! Which, of course, I don't have. Sigh. If it's not one thing it's another with me!
Atleast you'll have two sizes of needles for when you turn into a knitting fanatic, LOL!!
Have fun with the jewelry making too!
Your mermaids are just beautiful! (You make the best noses!!! :o)
You will probably need those needles for another project. There are so many wonderful yarns out there now! And they will look great in your new bag!! :o)
Posted by: Yvette at March 4, 2008 9:33 PMReally have tried to learn to knit several times wish there was a class to teach here in person... I've just signed up for Cristi's class and hope to do it justice... Good Luck
and have fun!
Sounds like every experience I ever had with knitting, which is why I usually avoid it. I really want to learn more though, since there are some ADORABLE amigurumi out there that's I'd love to do variations of....
I considered taking the polymer clay class, but since I can only take one at a time, I chose the book class instead (which I should be paying for tomorrow or the day after, as payday is fast approaching!)
So how're those hot flashes now? Go roll in the snow.
Posted by: Cindi at March 5, 2008 12:06 AMHow neat you are taking up knitting.
I just found this great website, knittinghelp.com and I learned how to do the Continental method by watching their videos.
I am left handed and I finally can knit! After 50 years this is an accomplishment.
Enjoy.
Hot flashes, my ob-gyn guy, former UT professor, told me that after 5 years of my suffering, he could not understand why I did not try the vag. cream, hormone. Whoa, what a difference.
Give your knitting time to relax. I think everyone knits tightly at first. It sounds as if you are switching from throwing to Continental? or not? You'll eventually want those bigger needles for something, anyway!
Posted by: Beth H at March 5, 2008 7:15 AMHey! I love Continental knitting - you will find it so much easier when you get the hang of it. Look up Combination knitting if you get a chance, it's a variation and even faster!
Posted by: Tammy at March 5, 2008 7:02 PMI tend to knit AND crochet loosely and have to use smaller needles/hooks. You'll just have to always remember to check your gauge (do a swatch first) because, tho' it seems like a pain in the patoot, you'll be glad you did later.
Posted by: Kai at March 7, 2008 7:30 AMKnitting and me never go together either. I end up never finishing the project. The only project I ever finished was a top for myself. I used to start a project and get bored with it soon so my mum used to end up finishing it for me. Even though she was not as fast as me but she use to persevere.
