Little girls and dolls

I spent today sitting in my driveway. Not too interesting, eh? I am having a garage sale this weekend and someone has to do the deed. I am a sucker for little kids and I kept giving away stuffed animals instead of selling them. But it was fun to see how excited the little ones got. My husband suggested I put some of my work out in a little display to advertise myself. I thought it was a good idea so I grabbed a half dozen. Fairies, trolls, dragons, and a couple of more 'regular' ladies. The older girls just loved them - older, as in 8 or 9 years old. But there were a couple that gave me a start. One little girl walked up to my dragon, grabbed it by the neck and started twisting. Oh my! I nearly hurt myself rushing to get it out of her hands. Another grabbed my troll by the hair and starting poking his eyes. She was full of questions. How did I make them? What are the eyes made from? So I told her all about it and she turned around and gave her Mom a lecture too. She pointed out each doll and said what kind of eyes they were, buttons, glass, or painted. She was just full of herself and too cute. Funnily enough I had a child's play doll out there that I made but they didn't take a bit of notice of her. They all liked the fanciful ones. Maybe someday those little girls will remember my creatures and will want to make one for themselves. But for now the dragon stays home.
