yep - bought this on eBay. It's signed by the artist, Ivy Wylde, and dated 1996. She's about 13" tall. I love the face cab - I think it's an original sculpt. Does anyone have a clue if this is a pattern? I would love to trace this out and make one myself. I am also thinking of giving her a hand to hold her moon - it looks a bit unfinished to me. Why would I change someone else's piece? I don't know. I didn't buy it from the artist and I can't find any info on her. Not that it matters. Anyhow - I think it's really neat. All hand painted. I was surprised at how dull/matte the colors were compared to the photo on eBay. The seller must have hit the autofix button. But I love it anyway!

Hi Judi, Oh I love this. I would love a pattern to make her, I especially love her face you could give her so many different personalities with variations of colours etc. Lots of fun. Avery lucky find. oh and I would give her a hand too. Belinda
Posted by: Belinda at February 19, 2008 3:40 PMI don't recognize the pattern OR the face sculpt -- granted I don't know all the patterns out there, but I think this one I would have remembered. What a very cool piece! The colors look plenty bright on my monitor too. I'd love to see it in person.
Posted by: JudiA at February 19, 2008 4:26 PMThis is really awesome, never heard that name before nor have I ever seen anything like it. But I love it.
Posted by: sandra walker at February 19, 2008 5:15 PMOh, that doll is adorable! And so unique. I love things that have their own style and whimsy. Yes, that's the word. Whimsical. I just love the detail too! The painting is so beautiful.
Now I'm jealous! This is an awesome find.
Posted by: Cindi at February 19, 2008 8:37 PMI'm no help on recognizing the name or the pattern, but I sure do LOVE this doll! In a way, it looks like the kind of thing Li Hertzi would make, doesn't it?
Posted by: Sue K at February 19, 2008 8:49 PMHi Judi
I Love this doll its form and movement is absolutely gorjas, the face is terrific - that eye all wounded and all- I would love to play with the pattern myself - isnt it strange how some things "grab" ya this is one of them its not colours I like but its grabbed me!
thanks for showing her Judi great e4bay buy girl
love n hugs bear xoxoxoxo
That is a great find. It is very beautiful and the colours are so vibrant. You could do so many variations with it. It probably is just a one off.
Posted by: shashi. at February 20, 2008 5:31 AMWhat a wonderful find! Thanks for sharing and love the story too.
Posted by: zJayne at February 20, 2008 6:11 AMShe's glorious! Even if, up close, the colors are more muted than they appear here, they are still great! And her expression speaks volumes. I don't see why you couldn't replicate her as long as you say you based your doll on an unknown designer's piece! I'm guessing you could make some really awesome dolls!
Posted by: Kai at February 20, 2008 10:06 AMJudi, thanks for sharing the picture with us! I LOVE this piece - the curving lines of the doll, the face, the whimsy... If you make a pattern, let us know!
Posted by: Martha at February 20, 2008 10:32 AMI absolutely love her! What a find. The flow of form is great fun and I'm totally inspired. I haven't made a doll, don't have time until other deadlines are met... but she has definitely inspired my to give it a try.
Posted by: Lyric at February 20, 2008 10:33 AMOh WOW!!! I shall echo the rest in saying, "What a find!"
I don't reconize the face....but the fact it has indented nose holes....I would hazard a guess at saying it was hand sculpted?
Can you imagine a flock of these dancing across a wall?
Posted by: Rebecca at February 20, 2008 8:22 PMjudi this is eye candy. Bravo for buying this! If you manage to make a pattern PLEASE let me know- this looks right up my alley!
Posted by: Rivkah Rosenfeld at February 28, 2008 9:10 PMHello! New to your blog- am loving it! I have to echo everyone else- a fabulous find! I do hope you will make a pattern for her. She's a real beauty!
Posted by: Bettsi at March 4, 2008 1:39 PMHi, Judi,
I came across your blog in an image search...for what? I don't really remember. Anyhow, I saw this post and I agree it's really great, and I have a bit of a lead (maybe?) on where the face cab may have come from. There's this woman, Diane Briegleb, who makes these fabulous cabs by hand that you can buy at a few stores. She calls them simply "The Face." Here's a link to her gallery page on her website:
http://www.idianetheface.com/face_gallery.htm
There's a short list of links to stores at the beginning of this page, but I've only been successful at actually locating The Face cabs on one site (the FOB INC. one).
I can't say that I've bought any, but I was extremely tempted once. On a whim I decided to see if I could hand sculpt the faces I needed myself and it turns out I can...go figure...so I never bought these, but at least I can pass on the find. Even if this isn't a "The Face" cab, she has some absolutely haunting figures that you may fall in love with just as much.
Enjoy :)

Oops! I lied...it was the My Father's Beads store, not the FOB one. Look under "Ceramic Faces."
Posted by: Lynette DiPalma at March 18, 2008 4:54 PMI love this doll also! What great animation in the pose and painting!
