Etching glass with die cuts

Plushie fever has passed and I have been wondering if I wasted my money when I bought the die cut machine to use to make eyes. NOPE! I found another use for it - to decorate jars. I have no idea where this idea came from because I haven't etched glass in YEARS - probably 10 years. But I got out the contact paper and made 3 stencils using my new Flourish die (from Revolution). If you've never etched glass - it is soooo simple ...

Step one - cut your stencil from contact paper, stick it to the glass, and burnish so there's no air bubbles for the cream to sneak under.

Step two - cover it with the etching cream - which I don't think is brown but this stuff is over 10 years old - see what happens when you never throw out craft supplies, ha ha. Leave it on for 5 minutes then rinse it off with water
etch2
Step 3 - admire.

Wow Judi, how simple yet beautiful. I imagine you could have a lot of fun with this. I'd love something like this on my kitchen cabinet on the glass doors. Belinda

I haven't done that in years either, probably about 10!!!! Hehehe!!!! I like this design is it way cool. Know what would be way cool on it??? Some rub-on fish!!! Looks like sea weed.

Great idea Judi! It's wonderful how just a little etching makes the ordinary mason jar a much more modern vessel. I guess no glass surface in your house is safe from being etched now? :-)

I used to do etched mirrors and stuff ALL the time! This brought back memories. Maybe I should pull out my macrame cord, too. Hmmmm ...

Your hair looks fantastic! I love the color and the cut sure does flatter your face.

Your jar is so cool. I haven't thought about glass etching in years either. The pattern looks like sea plants to me. sorta floating in water.
