Duct tape dummy

Duct tape dummyI read somewhere about making a body shape using cardboard and then draping it with muslin to make a pattern. I think it was Arley Berryhill who was talking about it. I tried it but got a bit carried away with the duct tape. I have no idea how to do the next step - it was bad enough doing this. Although I did enjoy the process and had a lot of laughs. It's just not pretty, she's kind of chunky wouldn't you say? Notice how much room I give myself to work in ... NOT...and yes, the jar will be part of the doll ...

I don't think it looks bad at all. And what exactly is wrong with being a little chunky, or the term I prefer- curvy! LOL!

Yepper Arley and Mimi Winer do a basic body and then drape with muslin...i use tin foil...remember when you took the class teeheee...press tin foil over form...make darts..cut them out...then you can use the foil as your pattern...draw on paper...straighten out and tada it looks great and I like chunky teehee

LOL! I don't know diddley about this technique, so I'm no help, but looks to me like you're doing fine! She's not a Barbie but she looks quite normal, actually.

Yes I do this but shaping like Linda said. Hum, very interesting twist on it though. Kind cool really.

this is interesting....I'm eager to see where you are headed.

I'd say that is about normal for any space when we get working in them for a bit... arrgghhhh ...no room !

the shape looks pretty good Judi...

my Santa that I made years ago actually has two bowls (one right side up..and one upside down) that meet in the middle ..which is where his belt goes. It sure is fun to know what is under the rest of the doll isn't it?

That is the thing about dolls that blew me away when I began with them.....totally different from making bears. With bears...the beginning IS the end so to speak....if you make one wrong stitch....well, when you turn the pieces you will see it... it will be ruined. With dolls...doesn't matter two ticks what is underneath it seems.... the covering and embellishments hide it all.

Looks interesting, I don't know a thing about this technique so am curious to seee what you do with it.
