Domino Madness

I have been working on dominos like mad the past few days. I am going to try to sell these at a Christmas bazaar one Saturday in December. Of course I really should go sign up for it. It's a small bazaar held every weekend in December in a half-empty mall in North Pole. It never fills so it shouldn't be a problem. If I can't get in I'll just open an Etsy shop on the web and see if I can move them that way. Anyhow - you know that saying that there are no mistakes, only opportunities?

I had the opportunity to do a couple of collages on this batch of dominos. I discovered that you can't make a dark background and expect the black ink to show up. I might try silver next time. I also found out that pigment ink does not dry on these things no matter how long you leave them. I was trying to avoid using the Staz-on permanent ink because I hate how it won't clean off the stamps. I ended up having to spray these with a light coat of polyurethane to seal it before I enameled them. Live and learn!

Oh, oh, oh .. almost forgot ... also learned that a husband who was given green glow in the dark powder will bug you to death until you agree to put some on a domino. One of the doms with the Japanese characters has a 2nd character stamped on it that only shows up in the dark. Crazy.

They are looking good Judi. All are lovely. Must be a good feeling to be left alone to do all the wonderful stuff you do. I never seem to get time for myself. I have got to snatch it most of the time LOL!

Judi, I can't say there are any I DON'T like. They're are fascinating! But I like the ones with photos better than the ones with just words or symbols....does that help???? Good work on all of them.

Hi Love all of them. My favourites are #8 and #11. Also love the ones with beading on the bottom. I've done shows before and have faced this same problem. I would continue making what you love and enjoy. I've found what sells one day, sits another. There dosn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to these things sometimes!! Good luck and enjoy.

Hi Judi -

Nice dominos! My favorite is # 4, but the others are neat, too. I like the beads at the bottoms, too.
Good luck with sales!

Hi Judi: The ones I loved best of the dominos are 2, 8, 9 & 11. I love anything oriental looking. They are all great, however, just if I were buying one, it would have been an oriental style.

I like all of them. My experience is that you don't do well making things if you don't just love them yourself. So make what appeals to you. Bernie

Judi, I preferred the ones with faces or figures. My preferences by number are 2, 6,7,8,11,15,16. They are all very attractive and I would like to know how you made them.

Judi,
Excellent job on all of your dominos, but I LOVE...LOVE #6. I think anybody would be happy with that one for sure!!!!! Bonnie

Posted by: Bonnie Schulte at December 3, 2005 10:24 PM

How much are they? I would definitely like #2 for myself and I would a #12 for a friend if it have beads on the bottom, too!
Let me know and I will send you a bank cheque for the cost of the necklaces and the post.
By the way, they would make fabulous ornaments on a tree.

Those dominos are so cool, do you think that method would work for making porcelain cameos? What supplies would I need for that glossy raised look? I also amd trying to research this artform and am having a hard time finding instructions on the net. Any recommendations?
