A Women's Affair: Doll club booth


Doll Club booth
This weekend my doll club had a booth at a trade show that was marketed towards women's needs and interests. We had dolls for sale and lots just for display. The sales to each other were great but dismal to the public, LOL. BUT our goal was to generate interest in the dolls and I think we were successful in that. We offered a free class (to be held soon) and had 39 women sign up for it. Now we have to come up with the class, LOL. We thought up the idea on Friday as we were setting up and then brainstormed it today. I think we're going to have them make a Bendi type doll and then wrap it with fibers. Use face stamps that they can color in. Something we can do in 4 hours and have a finished product. Three of us will teach and we'll probably do two sessions. If we have 10 show up out of the 39 we'll be happy. It was a good weekend!

The booth looks lovely. You are so lucky to have a doll club where everyone is interested in displaying and getting the cloth dolls out there. Hope you get all the 39 people. It means there is a lot of interest. You should be able to get I am sure half the people to come. Wish you well with the class.

Nice display! It's set up well & has a really varied array of creations! And I think your free class sounds like a very savvy idea! Good business! Keep us posted on how many people show up to make dolls. Just think - you could be introducing those people to a whole new (DOLL) world! VERY cool!

The display is awesome Judi - unfortunately the public doesn't look at our dolls as the art and HARD work that it is. Wish I was close enough to take that class myself :-)

Very professional looking booth. Sorry sales weren't better, but maybe if you gain some new members they will earn and appreciation for how hard it is to make these wonderful dolls. Kudos to you all!

That's a great looking display! I'm glad that you had such a positive response to your free class. It looks like there's a resurgence in the popularity of cloth doll making. Here's to a very successful booth!

Overall, your booth has a nice layout, your product isn't the easiest to present at a trade show so kudos for your efforts. We are a trade show display design and distribution company and if there is one thing lacking it's signage stating what you do. I doubt your club wants to spend $2-$3 thousand dollars on a professional booth setup, however, a simple $250.00 banner showing your club name, contact info and a call to action statement like, "learn how to make these beautiful dolls, ASK US HOW!" would enable the visitors to understand why you were there. Trade show displays are a lot like billboards, most have simple images and graphics and a direct to the point marketing statement. Try this at your next show and I'm sure it will garner more interest.

That's exactly the experience our doll club had with our first art fair -- very few sales (except to each other), but a lot of interest generated and connections made. Your group had a beautiful display.
