Someday is here!

I turned my litle sketch into a doll yesterday. I think she’s cute as a button and now I’m working on an improved version. Some of my Facebook friends asked me to turn her into a pattern. Sounded like a good idea to me so Version Two is in the works now. The biggest change is her head shape, this one came out kind of square so I made it rounder and with wider cheeks. I’m stuffing the head now, will have to wait to see how it turns out. So if you like this little girl, wait a couple of weeks and she’ll be available as an instant download.

Just a little sketch

I had a staff meeting at work today and as usual I tend to doodle throughout the meeting. I usually Zentangle but often I draw these little folk art girls. Here is today’s sketch:

One of these days I’ll turn some of these sketches into dolls! (and yes, she has some sort of mouse hat on)

Catching up

May 13, 2013

I’ve been very bad about blogging (again). It must seem like I’ve dropped off the face of the earth. I always promise to do better at writing but I don’t seem to keep those promises. I have even posted photos to my Flickr account for entries I had planned on writing. So what have I been up to? Plenty! I actually went to my first doll conference last month. I went to Artistic Figures in Cloth and Clay in Ohio. It was amazing to be around people who love to do what you do. I got to meet so many people I’ve known online for years, it was exhilarating!

I took three one-day classes. The first was a technical class on Period Clothing Pattern Designing, although it ended up pretty much being about how to enlarge/reduce patterns and how to move darts. It was really interesting. My second class was this little folk art doll, it was with Christine Lenz, much fun and one of my table-mates was Sherry Goshon. It was great to see her again.

My last class was with Lucy Landry and was another technical class. Her class was about adding volume to your doll patterns. Lucy taught me how to redraw my leg pattern to add buttocks. I have to practice it before I have a decent pattern but this was another great class. Too bad I was basically brain dead by Sunday though, I don’t know how much I retained. It was so much fun though! I can’t wait until the next one!
