I had a fabulous time on my cruise but it sure is nice to be back home where my bedroom doesn’t pitch up and down every night. Soaked up the sun, drank cappucino coladas, did a lot of sightseeing, and didn’t really miss my sewing machine at all! Here are a few altered Barbies that were being sold as souvenirs at a ‘flea market’ in Acapulco. There was a fabric shop right across the street from the market but although I wandered through I didn’t buy … I am trying to keep to my promise to myself not to buy any more fabric. So far, so good!
I’m outta here … going on vacation for two weeks, whoo hoo . I’m looking forward to poking through the tourist shops in Mexico .. who knows what I will find for my art! Don’t forget me … I’ll be back at the end of the month.
I’ve been working like mad making another troll and writing the pattern as I work but decided I needed a break. When I was in JoAnn’s yesterday they had scrapbook papers 5 for $1. I need more paper like I need a hole in my head but I had this idea …. well, you know how that goes. So I bought a plain wood frame ($1.99) and 4 coordinating papers ($.80). This morning I gessoed and painted the entire frame pink, added strips of the scrapbook papers, varnished it, added rick-rack and buttons and ta da … a lovely present for my mother! I think this is a perfect Grandmother present, as she has a wall of frames with all the grandkids photos. Probably cost $4.00 and a little bit of time. I think these will make excellent presents for all my friends – just a change of paper and embellishments and it can be personalized. You should make one too!
If you want step by step on how to make this .. just continue on …
On one of my doll lists we’ve been having a big discussion on what people like in their patterns. A big point of contention was whether it was better to have photos or drawings. All the designers said it is just too expensive to put photos in your patterns – at least it is if you want to charge a competitive price. I’ve seen patterns go for $16.00 when it is a ‘photo’ pattern, others are usually about $8.50 or so. I am getting ready to make my troll into a pattern and this has been on my mind. I’m not very good at drawing so how was I going to get my ideas across. I worked it out … here’s how to do it …
Now that I’ve got the headdress class finished with I have to clean up my studio. To me this is a mess .. there’s lots of little ‘stuff’ that has to be put away. None of it goes in the same place either. You can tell how I work from these photos – I paint myself into a corner. I don’t put things away when I’m done working with them so I end up with very little working space.
The absolute worst is the cutting table. I never have any room to cut anything! I have permanent piles on it, LOL. You can forget ironing too! I left these photos full size on the server so you can click on them and see everything. I love looking at people’s studios and seeing what they have. Enjoy!
Oh – good news – my brother (my blogmaster) has loaded a new anti-spam program so now EVERYONE can leave messages without having to use fake emails addresses and best of all … NO MORE MATH!!!! Whoo hoo!
I don’t know where you draw the line between hats and headdresses .. this one seems more of a hat to me although it is not removable. It doesn’t have a brim either, and it’s not really a cloche, so maybe it can be a headdress. I have one more headdress to design and then this is done. I am itching to start on a new/old idea I have for a connected woman!
I am working on my class instructions for the mini-class I’m teaching over at Doll Street. The class starts March 1st . You can see the ad and/or sign up now if you like. It’s only $10 and I’ll teach you various alternatives to hair. If you’ve read my blog for a while you know I hate hair. Here is one of the styles I will be teaching …
