The last paper elf !!

I'm moving right along with my swaps and round robins. Today I finished up a little paper elf for Helen in NY. This was for a round robin that I'm doing with Sherry Goshon's group - FabricDollArt. This is the last month of this project so I should be getting my journal and little girls back home soon. Let me tell you what this little elf is made of ...

it's not sugar and spice and everything nice. It's green ink and stamps, pieces of paper napkins, flowers and leaves, and lots of holeless beads. I used Aleene's Paper Glaze as the glue for the beads. It has a nice long conical spout that allows you a lot of control over the glue. You can actually draw designs with it because it is a fairly thin glue. If you look at the face you'll see some silver around it - those are silver beads. Try it, you'll like it. I also used it to make the gold stars on the torso ... but ... I used embossing powder and the glue bubbled when it was heated. But I'm pleased with it and I think Helen will like her too!

Not more &*^)*# postcards!

Yep, but these are the end of them for a while. I am not going to do any more swaps. At least not fabric postcard swaps. I have hosted a Yahoo group for just about a year now and I've been involved in all the swaps. I'm pretty burned out on postcards. Most of these are from the elinor peace bailey mystery quilt blocks. The ones that I showed earlier now have iron on studs as embellishments. So - this is it! Yay!

Healing doll

I just found out that a friend of mine, who has become addicted to prescription pain pills due to a botched surgery, has decided that enough is enough and she is going to stop taking them. Which is easier said than done. She is going to go to a detox center for a week to help her both physically and mentally. She mentioned that she will have a lifetime of demons to deal with and when I was laying in bed last night this doll told me she needed to come to life.

This is The Littlest Warrior, her mission to to help my friend battle her demons. She is only about 8". Her 'hair' represents rays of light. She carries a sword of strength, and a shield of courage that represents my friend's heart of gold. She has hearts on her shoulders because as a Mom she carries a lot of weight. She has armor to keep the demons out but only a strip of it so she can let her friends and family in. There are 3 little word charms on her armor; love, believe, and live. My friend loves ocean colors so that is why the doll is kind of blue - the back side is kind of green. I hope she receives strength from this.

How to cheat making fabric postcards

A few years ago I got talked into making a mystery quilt designed by elinor peace bailey. It was one of those one pattern a month things, which ended up making the quilt pattern $60, pretty steep for a quilt pattern, LOL. Anyhow, the pattern didn't fit on the paper so you were supposed to add 1/4" to each side and to each applique piece that went to the edge of the block. Of course I forgot to do that on some blocks. I could have cut the bigger pieces down by 1/4" but then it threw off the whole design. I ended up so frustrated that I never finished making it. So I've had these blocks hanging around for a few years. Yesterday I started cutting them up into postcards. They need some embellishing but sure is an easy way to cheat!

One more wall hanging

I made one more of those Sew Lovely wall hangings - this one is a bit smaller than the others - the skirt is shorter. Although it is still 20" long. I am just about out of the sheer gold material with the glitter and the holeless beads. I'd been hoarding that material for a long time .. too pretty to use ... you know how that goes! Here she is ....

This one is for sale at my Etsy store ... only $29.99 or something like that ....

I have close-up photos of this at the Etsy store if you want to see details. Why is it so hard to take photos of glittery stuff?

Photos of the doll show

I took some photos of the doll show today. I still have to go back and take more. Some didn't come out and my camera can't hold that many photos when I take high resolution shots anyway. You can see some of the dolls here.

More sew lovely paper dolls

I don't know what to call these ... they aren't really dolls but they aren't really paper dolls either. What they are is pretty! Tell me what you think these should be called ...

The gold one is going to be donated to the Elks Lodge for their charity auction. The red one is for my daughter's birthday present. Barbara Willis pattern.

A head of my own

When I made the Ostrich Showgirl for Natalie I used her face design. This morning I thought I would try one of my own. I drew the face and then transfered it to the fabric like she taught me. Then I proceeded to color it in using Nat's technique. But .. I didn't refer to the class notes , I just tried to remember. That way my own coloring techniques came into play too. I'm pretty proud of this ...

Don't mind the body ... it's from a Patti Culea class I took a few years ago and it didn't have a head. This head is a wee bit big but it works. More or less, LOL. I know I keep plugging Nat's class but you'll learn a lot, really! Oh - this is a flat face - no sculpting at all.

Another paper doll done

I've only got one more month with this paper doll round robin, it's been fun. This month I decided to do a traditional type paper doll. I made a set of clothes with tabs for the basic doll to wear. Here's the basic doll .. an old lady in her underwear... and her hat.
